Michael Hunnicutt passed away unexpectedly on February 23, 2023, at the age of 68. Michael was a brilliant boxing analyst and historian. His expertise extended from the gloved era through 2004, specifically in Jack Dempsey, Harry Greb, Sam Langford, Joe Gans, Benny Leonard, Jack Johnson, and Mickey Walker. His research included an extensive study into the development of Boxing Strategies, Styles, and Techniques from the Gloved Era to 2004. Few people possessed his understanding and knowledge of the complexities of boxing, as shown in two of his articles that appeared in the International Boxing Research (IBRO) Journal: A Thumbnail Sketch of the Development of Boxing Strategies, Styles and Techniques During the Gloved Era to Present – 2004 , and Punching Power – Some Misconceptions and Conceptions. In addition, Michael spent hours upon hours studying and analyzing videos of the great fighters. Mike often corresponded via Facebook with other fans, including members of the IBRO. Michael is survived by his two brothers, Allen and Keith Hunnicutt, and their spouses. Kris Hunnicutt posted on Facebook. “Our family lost a great friend, brother, and uncle. He was truly an asset to our house. He was kind, thoughtful, sincere, sensible, strong, worthy of much love, and he was light on to himself.”
