Gino Arilotta
November 7, 1930 – October 7, 2022
Gino Arilotta of the IBRO passed away on October 7, 2022, after a long illness. Gino joined the IBRO in 2016. Although Gino was terminally ill, he worked tirelessly up to his passing, finalizing last-minute details on The Rochester Boxing Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony, which occurred on October 22, 2022.
Gino was born and raised in East Harlem, N.Y.C., where he boxed in the Police Athletic Association and the Silver Gloves and trained for the golden gloves at Rocky’s gym on 1st avenue in Harlem. Gino graduated from Jefferson High School.
He greatly enjoyed 40 years as a tractor-trailer driver finishing his career with Red Star Express. He achieved the 2 million miles safe driving award.
Gino was the president of the Rochester Boxing Hall of Fame, a certified boxing coach, president and founder of the Teamsters Local 118 Retiree Chapter, a Teamsters Union Steward, and a delegate for the Teamsters retirees to the Rochester Labor Council.
Gino was a labor activist and supported many union functions, including clothing drives, food drives, and meals on wheels.
We will remember his smile, warmth, energy, and love for life, family, and friends. He worked hard all his life and made a difference in the lives of many.
Gino and his beloved wife, Ruth Louise Carlson, raised seven children who blessed them with 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
